| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Product Description With precision optics, proprietary technology that ranges the pin easily (even at extended distances), and a Scan mode available at any time, the Leupold GX-1 digital golf rangefinder sets the pace for line-of-sight measurement. The GX-1 is built around its PinHunter and Prism Lock functions. Every GX-1 golf rangefinder has been precisely calibrated to fire a laser beam at the target in the crosshairs, whether it's a flag, tree, or sand trap. The rangefinder then uses its proprietary beam geometry to gauge the returns from the pin, and its advanced GX software to accurately separate those returns from objects in the background.
The GX-1's PinHunter function lasers precisely on a pin or other target. | There's no better way to determine exactly where a flag or water hazard is located. It's even easier to range a distance pin on courses that utilize prism technology thanks to the GX-1's Prism Lock. Simply hold the top button to scan the area around the pin. The moment the GX-1 identifies a prism-topped flagstick, the rangefinder will beep and the display will freeze. The PinHunter and Prism Lock features combine to make the GX-1 the most accurate golf rangefinder on the market. The GX-1 also offers both Fog and Scan modes. Unlike most rangefinders--which give measurements from the first target returned, which in some cases is the fog between you and the pin--the GX-1 cuts through the weather to provide fast, accurate measurements to the green. You don't let anything stand between you and the cup, so why should your rangefinder? The Scan mode, meanwhile, delivers multiple readings in one quick sweep. Just hold down the Power button and the display will continuously update with accurate line-of-sight measurements. Construction and Functionality Leupold's products are legendary for their durability, with a ruggedly built housing and waterproof body. Fortunately for users, the optical system in the GX-1 is built to the same exacting standards, with precision glass, cutting-edge coating technology, and rugged structural components. The resulting optics are bright and clear, and offer accurate ranging, low glare, scratch resistance, and years of dependable use. In addition, the GX-1 offers an intuitive Quick Set Menu, giving you fast access to all the features of your rangefinder without cluttering the field of view. Best of all, the GX-1 is tournament legal, as it offers line-of-sight measurement only. Need to add precision to your golf game? Look no further than the GX-1.

Product Description Leupold's GX-I is a line of sight rangefinder that complies with USGA rule 14-3, making it tournament legal on many courses. It has seven aiming reticles that allow each golfer to customize the point of aim to his or her playing style or eyesight and an easily accessible scan mode that is always at your fingertips. Each GX-I incorporates Leupold's proprietary PinHunter laser aiming system, a combination of advanced hardware and software. Pinhunter uses a laser that is optimized to range golf features and a software package that maximizes the effectiveness of the laser under golf conditions.

| Customer Reviews: Nice Product August 16, 2010 Frodo Compact (palm size), easy to use and well-built. I have never used a range finder before, so I can't attest to how it compares to its competition, but it works fine. I bought it when I was going on vacation near a course that was not charted by Sky Caddie (GPS). I still carry the Sky Caddie on charted courses, where it is good for a quick check of distances to bunkers, front of green, etc. But if I want the precise distance to the pin, the laser works best. It's especially useful inside of 150 yards. It's also useful on the driving range. My wife borrows the GX-1 now. She likes its small size and also the included case that hooks on to her bag. She prefers it to the GPS, which she says is too complicated. Now she wants one of her own as do some of the women she plays with. I also looked at the GX-2 which includes inputs for altitude, elevation and temperature and can even "recommend" which club to use. However, these features can't be used during competition. Further, even if the algorithms are correct, the promised precision is not overly useful. What about wind? How's your lie? How are the fairways running? Are the greens soft or firm? Fortunately there is still a place for human judgement and experience in this game!
Best rangefinder out there! May 25, 2010 R. Frost (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This thing is so easy to use. I know that optical rangefinders get criticised because of hand shake but this one gives an accurate reading regardless. It seems that as long as the target is somewhere in the middle of the screen then it locks on. Good build quality ... can't find anything wrong with it.
